Local IT firm aims to make PHL IT Capital
A group of tech-savvy professionals are pushing for the country’s attainment of the description “IT Capital of the World”.
The president of iConcept Global Advertising Inc. sees the potential of Filipino IT professionals.
Engr. Marlon Owen Cruz shared that when he worked in the Middle East there are a few nationalities thriving in the field of IT. “Fortunately, Filipinos have what it takes to be leaders in IT,” he said adding “our student must get the necessary, additional support.”
He explained that while the government is stepping up its effort to upgrade the competencies of the students, private companies and individuals can help in attaining its vision of Philippines as an IT Capital.
Guided by its maxim “Lead through IT skills and values”, iConcept Global Advertising Inc. conducts free seminars on website development and Internet marketing. “We believe that the first step in making our vision come to life is adequate education. The seminars we give are aimed at providing students background knowledge on the current trends in the IT industry as well as industry practices here and abroad.”
iConcept Global is a Filipino-owned ad agency specializing in web design and development and other online marketing services. The team has already visited five universities in Bulacan to conduct University Seminar Series. Cruz also spoke in this year’s Student Assembly on Information Technology Education (SAITE), a region-wide convention for IT students and educators.
Cruz is positive that the company’s introduction of several brands catering to international companies will be a big lift in achieving the main goal of ITCAPITAL. “I believe everything that we do is interrelated. Our launch of the Australian brand through ICONCEPT AUSTRALIA and outsourcing brand through WEBHOUSE ASIA is a living proof of Filipinos’ capability to create websites that are cut above the rest.”
PNoy’s Social Contract with Filipinos
Its website, www.itcapital.com.ph, is envisioned to be a meeting place of students, educators, and industry experts. iConcept Global looks forward to establishing partnership with more industry-related organizations, who will be requested to provide relevant materials ready for students’ download.
Students can also engage in intellectual discussions with industry experts. Aside from regular competitions such as logo-making, AVP-making, photo and writing contests, ITCAPITAL also provides opportunities to IT educators.
“Teachers should likewise be updated with current IT trends. It will be more effective if educators will get first-hand knowledge on how the industry works here and abroad. ITCAPITAL also aims to provide exposure on various telecoms and IT facilities in countries with a more advanced technology,” Cruz noted.
ITCAPITAL also believes that its activities for the students are a big help in achieving one of the thrusts of Philippine President Noynoy Aquino’s “Social Contract with the Filipino People.”
“Digital literacy has been an essential competency in the past decades and might be the most important competency 15 to 30 years from now.”
